Does Ezine Advertising for Web Traffic Still Work?

By: Joe Mateno

Advertising in Ezines was once one of the most effective forms of advertisement. But is that still true today? The answer is both yes and no.

See, nowadays it's more common that people realise that the money is in the list. So you need to consider a couple of things before advertising in ezines.

The most important point you have to realize is that you only want to choose ezines that actually deliver results. But the sad fact is that most of the ones that get you the best results are terrible expensive to advertise in or not accepting advertisements other then their own.

Also, a lot of ezines that are sent via email these days are simply written in plain emails and sent out to their subscribers. The only advertisement inside will be those that the publisher of a ezine will profits from.

However, the "old methods ezines" are still there. The problem is that the list usually isn't that big. These people usually write in the original ezine style, which means a couple of articles, some resources and of course your occasional advertisement (which could be yours).

If you are lucky enough to discover one of those big ezines with buyers, it's often hard to get in. In the conventional way.

You can, however, contact the ezine publisher personally. Have them sign up for your affiliate program if you have one, and offer them a higher than usual commission for sales that come from the ad or recommendation that they send out to their list. In this way, you will get the best results.

Never pay to advertise in an ezine that you have not read! You want to make sure that what the publisher is sending out is suitable, and valuable to the subscribers.

Also, if you invest, ask those figures. Ask if they can proof their claims like open rates from previous owners, people on their list, etc. A lot of ezine owners are dishonest about those. But this doesn't mean you'll get same results since it does depend on your ad, too.

Also always try to buy solo ads or top sponsor ads. These will give you the best results.

Final word I'd like to mention is that the best ezines mostly sell ad spaces through online networks. In general you'll get the best results from those networks which will probably send your ad to several, highly targeted ezines.
