Kitty cats have been over the centuries developed strong bonds with humans. These creatures are found to form the most affectionate attachment to their owners. They are capable of great love and loss when their beloved humans died. If you decide to adopt a cat there are some basic supplies for kitty cats that you must have. These are food, food bowl, water bowl, toys, and brushes, combs, scratching post, trimmer and kitty litter box. A balanced diet for cats must include proteins, vitamins, fats and carbohydrates. No cat should be fed dry food only especially males. In the past, kitty toys have been pretty generic. A toy mouse on a string and your cat would play for hours. Today however, kitty toys are very sophisticated. There are interactive kitty toys that will make your children jealous and want to play with them. However it seems like the old fashioned, toy ball filled with catnip is just as likely to make you kitty jump for joy as the expensive toys on the market today. It is important to note that any toy that has an exposed elastic band is not safe for any cat or kitten and should be avoided. All cats have this scratching instinct and you must not curb it. What you need to do is to provide a scratching post for your cat. A cat that is allowed to go outside maybe be able to find some tree trunks or bark surfaces to scratch on. An indoor cat may end up scratching your furniture or drapes in the absence of scratching post or surfaces. When grooming your pet, you can use a combination of brushes, combs and rakes. There are different types of brushes and each type serves a particular purpose. You can acquire these grooming aids at all pet supplies stores. Brushing and combing helps to maintain a healthy coat and to reduce shedding and fur balls. Longhaired cats need special care to keep their fur healthy. It is recommended that they be brushed on a daily basis, and if that is not possible, every other day, this not only keeps the cats fur healthy, it is also a way for you to show your kitty how much you love him or her. Cats love to be brushed and will look forward to it everyday as quality time between the two of you. For cats with short hairs, if the coat is the thick type, hard brushes are the ideal ones to use. On those cats with short and sleek coats, the soft brushes are more suitable. You can use the slicker brushes on both the longhaired and shorthaired cats. Wire or pin brushes are best used on kitty cats with long hairs to prevent matting and tangle. Hard bristled brushes are mostly used on shorthaired cats. Today, kitty cats are still our loyal feline companions. They are so much a part of our lives. Statistic has shown that pets have a calming effect on our lives. For many people, especially elderly people, cats can be companions if they live alone. They offer unconditional love and loyalty. A cat can bring happiness and joy into a life that is sad and alone.
