Your Children Want To Be Part Of Your Family's Christmas Planning

By: J Gardener

When the Christmas season approaches, parents begin to plan all the activities that make this the most special time of the year. And most parents center their plans around those activities and celebrations which will make the holidays extra special for their kids. Parents live for the joy they find in their childrens' eyes on Christmas morning, after Santa has made his visit, so, no matter how hard it may be, moms and dads everywhere are willing to put up with the stress of making the holidays happen perfectly.

Ironically, though this is the time of year that children look forward to the most, parents often forget that their kids would love to take an active part in helping to prepare for the various celebrations and activities that fill the calendar. Children are family members, too, and can learn as well as help, during the family's busy holiday schedule.

Christmas shopping with a young child, for instance, may be a complicated venture to consider, but children need to learn, eventually, that Santa Claus isn't responsible for every gift that everyone gets. Despite the crowds and noise and the hassles, Christmas shopping with children is a part of their cultural education.

And by observing their parents as they shop for each other, kids can learn how to choose gifts that show love. They can learn that gift-buying and giving, for loved ones, is more than just finding a trinket or a toy, and can have real and lasting meaning.

Seeing a gift bought with care and love, then observing as that gift is opened on Christmas morning, children will learn a valuable lesson; that the joy of Christmas is found in more than just receiving presents, it's also found in giving presents with love.

Children who are included in their family's holiday preparations tend to have a more fulfilling holiday experience. Helping to decorate the house, both inside and out, can be a great way for a child to feel a sense of belonging and accomplishment. And children love to create their own decorations, personal expressions of their holiday spirit for all to see.

Kids want to be a part of every Christmas celebration. Allowing them to help prepare for all the various activities of the season will ensure that they feel that sense of family belonging that makes Christmas the magical day it's meant to be.
